TTT3 – Should Pilots Learn Jiu Jitsu

I wanted to chat with you about an article by Joshua Scovalend about jiujitsu as a method for police reform. I am going to approach this from the aviation venacular. This is something that we can really consider in the aviation world, and we should be better prepared to handle situations where someone is a danger to ourselves, our crews, or our passengers. It would be a great service to learn how to nonlethally subdue another person.

If you are a pilot, I highly recommend getting into jiujisu to prepare yourself for situations where you will need to protect yourself or others.

TTT2 – Taking Care Of Your Fellow Pilots

This episode of TTT is Adam’s personal opinions on the industry. A lot of our friends are facing furlow, and it’s really rough for young airline pilots who have not been with their company for a long time.

I want to point out that we should be taking care of our fellow aviators. This is a quick reminder to reach out to your friends who might not be doing so well. Just a conversation and connection coul be really meaningful to someone who is struggling, and it could be a chance to network and help each other.

The reality is that the future is clear at this point, and it might look grim for some people. Your friends might need some cheering up, especially your friends who fly airplanes or who used to be in the military.

Episode #53 – Talking with Robert Sanchez of Miracle Flights: The Cure for Distance

Miracle Flights was founded in 1985 on the belief that a healthy life is the birthright of every child – regardless of income, ailment or distance from medical care.

Originally called Angel Plane, Miracle Flights started out flying regionally on private charters. Over the years, they became an engaged member of the Las Vegas community, staging a series of popular air shows to raise funds as we grew our network of pilots, started flying coast to coast and helped an ever-increasing number of children in need of specialty care that was only available far from home.

In 1996 they became Miracle Flights for Kids and began to earn national recognition for their work, including President George H.W. Bush’s Daily Points of Light Award in 2001.

By 2005, they were coordinating hundreds of flights every month. They began flying families exclusively on commercial airlines – where flights were more economical and convenient for our flyers. Demand continued to increase, and in 2010 we coordinated our 50,000th flight.

Today, Miracle Flights is the nation’s leading medical flight charity and one of the only national nonprofits headquartered in Las Vegas. They arrange more than 600 flights every month to medical facilities across the country. Most of those they serve will require numerous flights over the course of their lifetime; some have already been flying with them for more than a decade.

Our guest today is Robert Sanchez. He is the Vice President of Corporate Alliances and leads the development team at Miracle Flights. He spent the last 12 years gaining valuable leadership experience in the corporate, start-up, and nonprofit sectors. Before Miracle Flights he was Senior Campaign Manager for Light The Night at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

To contact Robert and his team, the best place to go is https://miracleflights.org/ and navigate to the “Ways To Give” page or you can email them directly at: info@miracleflights.org

Episode #43 – Charlie Venema, Founder of Checked and Set, lays down the law!

This was thrown together last minute because Charlie and Adam finally got their schedules to match up. It was epic. Charlie laid down the law! He shared the do’s and do not do’s of application and resume building. The guys waxed poetic a little bit about how the backgrounds of how they got to their positions; one from the candidate perspective and the other from management (guess who was who…). And, as Charlie always does with TPN, he gives some tangible and usable wisdom that folks can apply today. We love us some Charlie!

Do you need to talk with Charlie and the team? Check them out: https://checkedandset.net or post a message on https://www.facebook.com/groups/ThePilotNetwork/. He will find you…

Episode #41 – BogiDope is helping to navigate the stressful process of transitioning from the active duty to the Guard or Reserves

Reach out to John McFarlin and the BogiDope team:

Reach out to Matt and Adam:

heyguys@thepilotnetwork.org or the website: www.thepilotnetwork.org

Do you want to be an Air Force pilot?  Do you want control over what you fly, where you live, and how often you work before you ever swear in?  Seem too good to be true?  Well, it’s not if you can earn a slot in the Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve.  They know because they went through it themselves!

At BogiDope, they’re passionate about guiding current and prospective military aviators through the ultra-competitive Guard/Reserve application process.  They want to understand your personal goals to better prepare you to seize a career opportunity that could forever change your life. They offer a variety of tools and content that allow you to stay informed and ready for your next big move.

BogiDope is a veteran owned and operated consulting company dedicated to assisting current and future military pilots discover where that next career target of opportunity may be.   Their passion is providing educated and actionable guidance to help each member achieve his or her aviation career goals.  BogiDope was created after struggling to find a consolidated source of reliable information while navigating their own aviation careers in the active duty, Air National Guard (ANG), and airlines.

They are committed to providing the most up-to-date and relevant data through the use of detailed articles, hiring information, squadron contacts, and much more.  For newer pilots, they focus on how to earn a coveted Undergraduate Pilot Training slot in the Air Force, ANG or Air Force Reserve (AFR).  For those already in the military, they provide guidance through the stressful decision and subsequent act of transitioning from the active duty to the ANG, AFR, or airline industry.

With decades of combined military aviation experience in both the active duty and ANG, plus careers at some of the largest airlines in the world, the BogiDope team has the experience, knowledge, and passion to help others achieve their aviation dreams, just as they have.  Their diverse experiences in Officer Training School, United States Air Force Academy, ANG hiring processes, Undergraduate Pilot Training, 2000+ instructor hours in fighters and heavies, Air Force Weapons School and airline training bring credibility to the aviation consulting industry.

Ultimately, BogiDope believes that providing access to critical information and engaging in important conversations, they’re changing the process by which our members’ aviation careers takeoff!

What does “BogiDope” mean? Imagine merging with an enemy aircraft in aerial combat.  You just passed nose to nose within 500 feet at over 1,000 knots and now you must outmaneuver your opponent in the fight of your life!  The adrenaline rush has made you hyper-focused and time seems to slow down as you see a missile leave your jet and fly to its intended target.  The ensuing explosion confirms your first aerial victory, but there’s no time to celebrate.  There are other targets close by, but you were so focused on that one, your situational awareness (SA) of the bigger battle space and the locations of those other targets is very low.  If you are unable to regain that SA quickly, opportunities will be missed.  So, how can you reacquire that SA as quickly as possible?

“Bogey dope!”  For tactical aviators, bogey dope is the phrase used to request direction from a controller to the next airborne target during periods of decreased SA.  Much like losing SA on the larger battle space during aerial combat, the majority of pilots do not have a full understanding of the career targets that may be surrounding them.  So, with the desire to provide targeted career guidance and putting a spin on that tactical communication tool, BogiDope was born.

Episode #40 – Mortgages, money, and how to keep more of it with Brett Schnake

This episode came about for two reasons:

  1. One of our members suggested to his brother-in-law, Brett, that he could really help out the members of TPN through his mortgage processing and that he should attend TPNx to show how he is a little different than other lenders. He showed up and blew away everyone in the crowd.
  2. My desire to refinance my mortgage as painlessly as possible because of my laziness when it comes to these types of things.

Many of us in the ‘part-time’ military have experienced the wrath of underwriting because of our multi-tiered employment status. The questions roll in from those folks about a $21 pay check from the Reserves one week, yet they never ask about or acknowledge the six-figure yearly salary shown on your W-2. Thank you 2008-2012 and the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

Brett clears all this up for us and discusses, in detail, how the mortgage process works. He tailors his talk to us aviation professionals and how we can make this all work to our advantage. As our newest sponsor, Brett helps keep the airship aloft so we can bring this awesome information to you. Yes, this is a shameless plug for Brett!

Are you in need of first mortgage, refi, investment property funds, or anything else associated with purchasing real estate? Navigate over here start the process (which by the way is pretty painless I might add):
